The Anchorage Daily News, Alaska’s most-read news site and newspaper, is looking for experienced reporters who can help us produce journalism that makes a difference. We have openings in an ambitious, stable, online-focused newsroom in an incredible place with great stories that need to be told.
We’re a scrappy, audience-driven newsroom that’s been awarded three Pulitzer Prizes for public service, the most recent in 2020. We’re dedicated to serving our readers and serving Alaska.
We’re looking for journalists who are searching for a newsroom where they can produce the best work of their careers. You need to have a solid, proven record in the basics: accuracy, context, fairness, clear and engaging writing and ability to thrive in a highly collaborative environment. You think critically, can see and find stories, know how to report them and see paths through spin and process. You’re driven to report not just what happened but why. Experience with data reporting or audio and video storytelling are bonuses.
We have a focus on and commitment to audiences — serving them, listening to them, growing them, retaining them. You need to understand online news and have a proven ability to work as part of a team. We’re big enough to have a robust readership and wide, deep reach, but small enough to make decisions quickly and for individuals to have an immediate and significant impact.
We cover a place bursting with rich, complex, interesting news — and smart, demanding readers who know what good journalism looks like. We’ve aggressively grown our online reach and we’ve repeatedly been honored for our work: IRE and SPJ national awards and first-place awards the past two years from ONA (we’re a finalist again in 2021). We are part of ProPublica’s Local Reporting Network and are working to expand partnerships to further power our journalism.
We’re independently owned and offer a competitive salary and benefits in a diverse, highly livable city with Alaska and all its outdoor opportunities right out the door. We value a diverse and inclusive workforce, work-life balance and workplace flexibility. We’ll relocate the right candidates.
