Lead Accountant/Accounting Manager
Cange Group, LLC, an Anchorage, Alaska based Commercial Real Estate Management Brokerage is looking for a lead accountant to process, track and evaluate all day-to-day financial aspects of its operations. Roles and responsibilities include all functions of the daily operations of the accounting department; monitoring and analyzing accounting data and produce financial reports or statements; establishing and enforcing proper accounting methods, policies and principles.
Responsibilities
- Prepare asset, liability and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information
- Develops and implements accounting policies, coordination of systems and procedures, and the preparation of operating data and special reports as required, including interim and year-end financial statements. Maintains company’s system of accounts; keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets
- Document financial transactions by entering account information
- Recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options
- Summarize current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement and other reports and packages as directed by owners
- Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents
- Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures
- Guide accounting clerical staff by coordinating daily activities, proper workflows and answering questions
- Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
- Secure financial information ensuring database backups are in place
- Verify, allocate, post and reconcile transactions
- Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results to multiple owners
- Analyze financial information and summarize financial status periodically
- Provide technical support and advice to management
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
- Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process
- Provide input into department's goal setting process
- Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
- Support month-end and year-end close process
- Communicate effectively with internal and external clients
- Contribute to a strong client relationship through positive interactions with client personnel
- Establish and maintain fiscal and electronic files and records to document transactions
- Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
Manage the daily operations of the accounting department including:
- month and end-year process
- accounts payable/receivable
- cash receipts
- general ledger
- reconciliations
- budgeting and forecasting
- revenue and expenditure variance analysis
- capital assets reconciliations
- trust account statement reconciliations
- check runs
- fixed asset activity
- debt activity
Requirements & Preferences
- Advanced computer skills on MS Office, Excel and accounting software and databases.
- Ability to communicate and work well with others, solve problems in a finance environment
- Experience in the Asset & Property Management Software Yardi a plus.
- Ability to manipulate large amounts of data
- Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures and principles
- Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- High attention to detail and accuracy is a must
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
- BS degree in Accounting or Finance
- Real Estate accounting experience and ability to read and understand leases preferred
- Multiple years in an accounting leadership role
