Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) is moving ahead through a rapidly evolving energy landscape. To lead them through this exciting phase, they are seeking a leader to champion their mission to safely provide its member-owners with reliable electric service, quality customer service and innovative energy solutions at fair and reasonable prices. The CEO will effectively develop, integrate, and implement GVEA’s strategic plan.
Key accountabilities include leadership, communications, Board support and employee development and supervision. A successful candidate will achieve a strong effective presence throughout GVEA by exhibiting integrity and transparency while improving productivity and performance. The CEO will be a trusted and valued resource by inspiring and developing employees, while demonstrating a strong ability to effectively communicate organizational interests, internally and externally. The CEO will ensure Board involvement in strategic planning and engage the Board in transparent, consistent information sharing.
The CEO will promote a ‘Safety First’ culture in line with GVEA’s philosophy and build a multidisciplinary team with expertise encompassing all operational aspects of power procurement and planning, including renewable power development. Through continual relationship building and maintenance, the CEO will ensure open and consistent communication between GVEA, local and federal agencies, community leaders and key public stakeholders.

Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Graduate degree preferred.
Completion of NRECA Management Internship Program (MIP) Certification is preferred.
Must possess valid Alaska Driver’s license
A continual record of career advancement with quantifiable successes that include executive management of multiple functions within a utility or related organization and a track record of successful board relationships.
Demonstrated leadership experience in a corporate management position.
Ten years’ experience in increasingly responsible administrative, management, and/or supervisory roles.
Demonstrated knowledge of the electric utility industry, preferably in public power.
Experience with labor contract negotiations and administration.
Leadership roles with public, consumer or community groups.
Must possess knowledge of Alaska’s unique energy infrastructure including the challenges of operating in an Arctic environment.
