Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) is looking for an energetic individual as our Director of External Affairs and Public Relations as part of the Member Services Team located in Fairbanks, Alaska. This full-time position earns a competitive starting wage of $148,509 Annually. We offer a comprehensive benefit package that includes a Defined Pension, 401(k) match, Health insurance, Life Insurance, Short- and Long-Term Disability, Annual Leave, Wellness Program (including fitness reimbursements), Tuition Reimbursements and Flexible Work Schedule.

A day in the life of the Director of External Affairs and Public Relations can look like:

Be accountable for setting the Association's vision for Public Relations activities. Promote the Association through legislative, regulatory and media contacts aligning with the interests of the Association and our members. Use excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain relationships with various media outlets, legislative or elected officials, and develop and implement public relations strategies. Utilize exceptional oral and written communication skills to ensure that members and employees are well informed and connected to GVEA through timely, accurate and consistent communication. Foster a positive and professional corporate culture welcoming all individuals.

Eligibility

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Political Science, or related field.
  • Valid Alaska driver's license.
  • Minimum of ten years' of progressive experience in the field of Public Relations, community relations, marketing or related field.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Experience with local, state and federal government policies and working in a political climate.

Notes: Candidates must submit a portfolio with a minimum of three writing samples and three samples of materials designed by the applicant (brochure, newsletter, flyer, social media post, video, etc.).
